The annual meeting of tho New Zealand Rugby Union has been fixed to be held on Thursday, May 16.
HOCKEY.
PROJECTED TOUE NORTH. A meeting of the Management Committee of tho Wellington Hockey Association was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. C. N. Cathie was elected chairman, of the committee, in the place of Mr. W. J. Organ, who found that ho was unablo (o give the necessary attention to the duties entailed by the position. A proposal was made that the opening of the season should be delayed a week, owing to the military camps having interfered with practice, but the motion was not agreed to. It was decided to write to the Auckland and Hawke's Bay Associations, suggesting that a Wellington team should visit Napier and Auckland shortly. It was proposed that the team should leave Wellington on Tuesday, May 28, play Hawke's Bay, on Wednesday, play Auckland on Saturday, and bo back in Wellington on Monday. Consideration of the question of playing grounds was introduced, but the master was postponed till Wednesday, when a meeting is to be held to deal with the subject,
LAWN TENNIS

The lawn tennis tournament was advanced another stage to-day, wheu the final in the men's championship singles was played, AVarno I'earso (Temuka) bpating S. N. Bro\ni, β-a, 6—9, o—6, 10—8. In the final of the men's handicap singles R. S. Brown (owe 30), 3-6, beat Pearse (owe 40), 9-7.

Mr. Sidney Pardon, the well-known cricket writer, in the "Sundav Times," says the promoters of tho Triangular cricket contests are confronted with tho risk of failure. Nobody seriously believes that Australia has found adequate substitutes for those remaining behind. Australia has produced onlv ono Trumper. Armstrong and Ransford were the two best bats in Victoria, and Ransford bad no <qual anywhere. South Africa would bo handicapped by the absence of Percy Sherwell and Voalor. Mr, Pardon predicts that Bardslov will l>o the best batsman in the Australian team.
