MB, RUSSELL'S SCHEME,

A deputation from the Early Settlors* and Historical Association of Wellington waited upon the Minister for Internal Affairs (lion. G. W. Kussoll) yesterday afternoon, to ask that 'provision be made in the proposed new Dominion Museum for the storage of records of early \\cllington and objects of cognate interest. The Hon. J. K. Jcnkmsoii, M.L.C., introduced the deputation, mid the other speakers wore Dr. 11. A. Cameron and Mr. Elsdon Best. The Minister expressed sympathy with the object of the association, but said he desired to maintain a distinction between the early records of Wellington arid the curly records of New Zealand. So far as the" distinctly Wellington section was concerned, ho thought the City Council should bo asked to provide accommodation in connection with the Public Library. Ho understood that there wae in the hands of the council a sum of JCIOO or -CSfID, which, lie would suggest, should be used for tins purpose., Hβ himseif desired to start a campaign for a purely national collection, which would bo housed in tho Museum, and he proposed to get into communication with London with a view to obtaining from tho Imperial Government records of value concerning tho foundation and colonisation'of New , Zealand'. , Hβ also hoped to cet into touch wilh tho families of past Prime Ministers of New Zealand in the hope that they might bo ablo to furnish records that would be of interest in connection with tho careers of those statesmen He also hoped to obtain records of tho various regiments that took part in Iho Maori wars, and records relating to the Boer war, penny postage, etc. Uβ would assist the Wellington Association in ariv way ho could, and he .would I* glad of its sympathy.aud assistance in tho larger schemo which Ue had outlined.
