Palmcrston North, April 13. There was some discussion on tho Defence Act at a general inwling of members of the- Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce last ovenins, nml, on tho motion of the. president (Mr. M. A. Eliott), seconded by Captain Preece, tho following resolution was carried without a dissentient voice:—"That this chamber desires to express" its appreciation ot the attitude shown by tho Minister for Defence in connection with his expressed intention of enforcing the law relating to the compulsory provisions ot tho Defence Act, aud that this resolution be forwarded to other . chambers and local bodies in the Dominion, with the request that they shall endorso the same it it meets with their approval. Mr Eliott said that tho now Minister's attitiido wns strong., resourceful, and reasonable. Niuety-nme per cent, ot the lioonlo of the Dominion were, in iavour of the Act, but tho email minority opnosed to it endeavoured, by making a groat noise, to make it appear that the majority was in opposition It was one of the finest Acts over placed on the Staluto Book.
