Mr. Edwin Hall, secretary of the Auckland Agricultural niul Pastoral Association, has. resigned his office. Mr. Charles Trewcck, of tho Christclmrch telegraph office, who is leaving Christchuich to take up the position of assistant-officer in charge, Nelson, was tho recipient yesterday of a presentation from tho Christcliurch telegraph staff. In making tho presentation, Mr. Moot, the officer in charge, paid a high tribute of appreciation to Mr. Trcweek both from an. official point of view- and also in connection with the prominent part ho had taken in advancing and assisting his fel-low-officers in outside pastimes, moro particularly in relation to cricket, in connection with which ho had been a prominent figure in office matches for many years past. Very sincere regret was felt at his leaving the office with which he had been associated for many years, and every success for his future welfare was sincerely desired by his fellow-officers. Mr. Treweek responded in feeling terms, and expressed his gratitude at the generosity of the stall' in recognising what he had" dono for them, and the good feeling ami camaraderie which had existed between them. Hearty cheers were then given for Mr. and Mrs. Treweek. The present consisted of an electro-plated entree dish, and a set of fish knives and forks. Mr. Treweek left Christchureh for Nelson last night.

(Welling-" tea College), who has been recommended by the Sena to for a second 1851 scholarship, obtained a Junior University Scholorsjiip in 1907, the Grey and tho Senior University Scholarships in chemistry and electricity in ISIU, a>nd iirst-class honours in electricity and second-class in heat, etc., ill the M.Se. degree. He was awarded tho 1851 scholarship for an investigation he carried out in the Physical Laboratory of Victoria College oil tho "Mature of Gamma Hays from Kadium." an investigation which was rendered possible by the generosity of the Royal Society of London, which lent the necessary radium, and who have published the results of the-investigation.

Many people in the Wairarapa, and on the coast will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Ktiimnrr, the wito of Mr. W. N. H. Kummcr, of Long Lea, Masterlon, which took place yesterday at Palmerston. Mrs. Kumniur was the eldest daughter of Mr. John Lintoii, of England.

Major Asada, of tho Imperial Staff of Japan, who is passing through New Zealand, is at present in Wellington. Ho called yesterday on Colonel liobin, CM.G., Adjutant-General, who extended to him tho usual courtesies. The visitor also met tho Prime Minister nnd other members of tho Cabinet. Major Asada, who is himself iv distinguished oflicer and went through the Russo-Japanese War, is tho son of Baron Nobuoki Asada, InspectorGeneral of tho Japanese Forces.

On Fridny next tho people of tho Thorndon parish (Roman Catholic) avo to farewell tho Rev. Father Peoples, who has been transferred to the Newtown parish.

Mr. Fred. Dinsdalc has been appointed caretaker of tho Wellington Bowling Club's property, in succession, to Mr. Holmes, who leaves shortly for England. The funeral of the Into Mr. Frederick J. Pownall took place yesterday morning, the interment talcing place at the cemetery, Knrori, in tho presence of a largo gathering of relatives and friends. Before tho cortege left for the cemetery, portion of the burial service was read by tho Rev. A. M. Johnston at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral. Tho floral tributes included wreaths from the Wellington Football Club, Star Boating Club, and the Amateur Athletic Association, of which bodies tho deceased gentleman wns an active member. Numerous other wreaths were received from nil parts of the Dominion. Tho pall-bearers were Messrs. 0 Cf. Kembcr, C. E. Richardson, >Jeil Gnlbraith,, Geo. C. Fache, A. D. Bayfleld, and A. H. Barnctt.
