DEATH OP A PIONEER,

Palmerston North, April 8. Another of our oldest residents, Mr. J. Pinkorton, passed away on Saturday, aged 75 years. Deceased was born in Glasgow in the year IS3", jnd, thirty-seven years ago, ho arrived in New Zealand by the ship Nelson, on that vessel's -maiden voyage. Ho first took up residence in Dunedin, and remained there for fifteen years, but, twenty-tivo years ago, he removed to Palmerston, and remained in this town till the timo of his death. Tlio lato Mr. Pinkorton entered into business hero two years after his arrival, and ho was well known for his enterprising methods. Ho was olio of the first to try the possibilities of a motor service delivery in his business. During his early lifo in the Dominion, Mr. Pinkerton took a keen interest in political matters. Ho was also a war veteran, having served in tlio Crimoa. A wife and daughter arc left to mourn their loss.
