MILITARY TRAINING.
Sir,—Yon pubKshcd a. letter on "Military Training," March 1.1, *igned H. H. W., llasterton, March S. If, according to your correspondent's lett?r Hint morally, socially, physically, and financially, it can be proved that compulsory military training is iu the best interests of .Now Zealand, then I riuite ajree with nil his statements. If your correspondent feels assured tliat tho coimftry is in <Ihtxger of national decay—failing the carrying of compulsory conscription—wily should you- correspondent state that he cannot help thinking that tho Government made a Jalsu move when they released young Cook from the" Ohristehurch Gaol? If I felt so strongly as your correspondent from llastertoii regarding so grave a situation concerning our country's welfare, I would say that our youths and people who oppose conscription are guilty of a heinous crime. Such criminals not only deserve gaol and flogging, but i!ven death, rather than they be allowed to disgrace any other portion of the earth's surface. let your correspondent from Maslertoa keep cool, and not lorio his head over the matter, if he is in earnest about the country's welfare he should not be just thinking about what the Government had done. Lot him come out in the open and help the Government force the law and help save the country from so much, preached about ruin and death. If. yoiir correspondent want's to prove his cass, let him rcvc. us some facts and figures as to why conscription is in tho best interests of New Zealand. Ha holds up to our lads and people deeds that won the Empire to stir, their enthusiasm. Let him come out in the open and sign his name, and I will at once forward him a book, and show him facts and figures about tho many dark and bloody deeds that never won an Empire.—l am, etc., G. DEE. ■Wellington, March 17.
