1 To-day the local celebration of St. Piitvick is to be held at Nowtown Park. Arrangements on, a comprehensive scale linvo been made to ensuro a successful function. This afternoon a largo attendance of the general public is expected, and complete arrangements have been inndi) for tho comfort and enjoyment of visitors. In the morning children's events will be run off, and when it is taken into consideration that some 500 entries have been received for both boys , mid girls' events, some idea can bo gathered of the interest which is being taken by the schools in tho gathering. The most important events for tho children are the half-milo cycle race, wrestling, and the half-mile walk." For the last mentioned no fewer than 50 entries have been received. The adult programme will be one of tho finest yet put on in Wellington. Jupp's Band will play selections during the day. As regards the national concert, which is to Iμ hold in the Town Hall in connection with tho St. Patrick's Day celebrations on Monday evening, it is safe to assert that the management's efforts to produce n high-class programme will be rewarded with success. Engagements have been acccptod by Mr. Farquhar Young, of Christcliurc.il, and Miss Adelaide Bruce, of Sydney. Of Mr. Young's abilities. Wellington music-lovers had a taste last year, which will stand a renewal. Of Miss Adelaide Bruce, the Wellington public can expect something rare. She was engaged to sing at the opening of,the: Auckland Town Hall; when she took tho solo!-'parfciin , 'tli«!-.-"Messinh," and. of.slieft performance tho Auckland press--were loud in their praises. Patrons are advised to book their seats at the Dresden, where tho box, plan is rapidly filling up.
