The present labour (roubles in tho Old Land aro having a very marked effect on the local market, particularly as far as hardware goods are concerned. The industrial unrest is not wholly responsible for this hardening tendency, however. It is partly duo to tho fact that wages have been increased and the cost of material has advanced in similar ratio. Nearly every hardware lino is affected, the average "increase being about ten per cent., although' in pome coses it has risen as high as twenty per cent. In the case of cutlery, a substantial rise ha.s already been made, and another is promised in the near future.
