SHAMROCK AND THISTLE.
SAY "NO" TO THE FERN
When Dr. A. K. Newman, M.P., president of tho Wellington Rugby linion, was in England some time ago, ho made inquiries as to whether another All Black team would bo welcome in the Old Country. lie saw 6oruo highest Rugby authorities at tho time, and they all said that the Scottish and Irish unions would refuse to play against New Zealand, and that if a team from tho Dominion went Home it would only find football opponents in England and Wales. This ss confirmed by the fact that the Euglish, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish unions have combined and agreed to invite the South African team, which went Home years after the New Zealanders. Dr. Newman is unable to' account for the feeling that exists in Scotland, but the fact remains that tho Scottish footballers appear to bo bitterly opposed to plaviing against a New Zealand team, and the" Irish. Union has apparently joined with them in the matter. Ho knows of no cause whatever for this strange action of Hie Scottish Rugby Union, but it is in keeping with the fact that.when tho All Blacks visited Scotland, the New Zealand Rugby Union had to tako all risks of tho gate.
