POTATO BLIGHT.
DAMAGE TO HUTT CHOPS. Whilst reference has been made in different, parts of the country to the damage done to tho potato crops by blight his season, very little has been heard of tho blight locally. On making inquiry within the past few days, however, it appears that local growers have suffered some loss, the blight having seriously affected some of the Hutt crops. Although the trouble is not nearly as bad as it was last year, one or two of the big growers have lost fairly heavily. One of the peculiarities of the blight is that it has attacked some fields and not others. For instance, one grower's produce was turning out quite sound, whilst that of a neighbour, not more than 100 yards off, was almost worthless. In one case of the kind a grower whoso crop was affected, received Is, Gd. per cwt. for his potatoes, whilst the man on the next-door farm grew a clean crop for which he received £i ss. per ton, or 4s. 3d. per cwt. Otiiki is.reported to bo practically free from the blight. At all events the trouble is not pronounced enough to affect prices.
