STORM IN SYDNEY.
PANIC AT A PICTURE SHOW. By Teleirraph— 'Press Association-Oop jrijht (Bep. February 29, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, February 29. 'A fierce thunderstorm with torrential rain has been raging over the city since three o'clock, and still continues. Lightning fused some tram wires, stopping the traffic for a time, and also fused some electric fittings in the American Picture Palace. The big audience in the building at the time rushed the doors, and several persons wero knocked down in the scramble. No serious injury was done.
FIREBALL FALLS IN STREET. (Rec. March 1, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney, February 29. At the height of the storm a fireball fell in George Street, and two tramcars were struck by lighting. No damage was done.
Many business places, including that of Messrs. Hord«rn Brothers, had their Btocks severely damaged by the encToaching flood waters. In some shops in the Haymarket the water reached the counters, and rose to a depth of four feet.
Large areas in the low-lying suburbs are inundated, and much damage has been done.
