PALMYRA ISLAND.
AMERICANS DETERMINED TO HOLD IT. Bj Teleeraph— Tress .Aaiestatlea— .OapTrigitl (Rec. February 29, 11 p.m.) London, February 29. The "Morning Post's" Washington correspondent reports that the State Department says tho United States- asserts its sovereignty over Palmyra Island, as part of the Hawaiian group. Owing to rumours of an adverse claim having been made, a cruiser visited tho island, and 'found no evidence of such a claim. The American Government, it is stated, does not intend to relinquish, its sovereignty over the island.
