PALMERSTON BAY BY DAY.
THE USUAL LOCOMOTIVE. (St Telegraph.—Bnacial Correißond'rat.) Palmerston, February 27. The Palmerston Fire Brigado has succeeded in obtaining the necessary guarantee from the citizens in connection with tho invitation to the United Fire Brigades' Association to hold the next conference here. Tho Main Trunk express from Auckland was over an hour and a half late to-day, owing to a mishap to the engine at Taihape. Stock inspectors from this, and some of the surrounding districts, aro gathering in Palmerston North this week for the purpose of receiving instruction in wool classing. Mr. Lees, of Wellington, is acting as instructor, and is visiting the various central towns in the North Island, where classes are beiug held.
