As the result of a personal grievance, Mr. Aubrey Ixiwe severely thrashed Horatio Bottomley in tho Strand. Botlomley declined to prosecute, although challenged to do so. (Rec. February 27, 10.15 p.m.) London, February 27. Lowe, who is well known in tho West F,nd, twice knocked Bottomley down. Lowe states that the quarrel commenced a year ago in Edinburgh during the pantotnimo season. The "Daily Express" slates that Bottomley had been dining at Romano's restaurant with Peggy Primrose, an actress who was tho mistress of Audley Lowe. London, February 2G. Tho High Court fined Horatio Bottomley £100 for contempt of Court, the contempt consisting of the publication of a slanderous article in his newspaper, "John Bull," because the Prudential Assurance Company refused to participate in his bankruptcy scheme to pay 7s. Gd; in the £. (Rec. February 27, 10.15 p.m.) London, February 27. Bottomley was subjected to a searching cross-examinntion, directed to show that his newspaper "John Bull" denounced financial swindlers, and afterwards published their advertisements. Bottomley admitted that he had authorised a barrister to hint to the Prudential Company's representatives (hat ho was willing to publish no further attacking articles if the Prudential Company agreed to his bankruptcy scheme. Tho Judges said that Bottomley's own evidence had chiefly convinced them that a chargo of blackmail could bo established. It would be useless to inflict n heavy fine, sinco the editors would have to pay.
