OTAKI.
Owing to there being no cattle stops at the crossing at the Manakau cross, two horses (the property o,f Messrs. Askew ,-md Briscoe) wandered on to the line, and, in getting out of the way of yesterday morning's goods train, ran foul of a bridge, and fell across the sleepers. One had evidently been choked, as it was lifeless when found, and in such a position as to indicate suffocation. The mishap delayed the train nearly three hours. The subway at Manakau will probably be commenced in tho course of a day or two, and when complete will be of great convenience to settklrs residing south of the railway station. Mrs. S. S. Mason and family left yesterday for tho Hutt, where they will take up residence. Mr. Mason will follow as early ns possible.
