MORE SQUABBLES IN SYDNEY,

In the Legislative Assembly to-day, when Mr. Wade, Leader of the Opposition, was about to propose his no-eonfi-denco motion, tho Speaker, Mr. Willis, ruled that tho motion could not be put in its present twofold form, as it contained a censure on the Speaker. No Government could be censured for any action on tho part of tho Speaker. He suggested that the motion should be altered to read "that the action of the Government in dismissing Mr. Robinson, Chief of the Hansard Staff, is deserving of grave censure."

Mr. Wade disclaimed any intention of reflecting on the Speaker. The motion was aimed directly at tho Government. After a warm debate, the Opposition indignantly protesting, Mr. Willis declared that the motion tirust stand in the fojm he suggested.

Mr. Wade interjected: "There is no motion in my name of that kind. I insist on moving the motion in its original form."

Mr. Willis thereupon declared that the motion had lapsed.

AN UNQUALIFIED WITHDRAWAL. (Rec. February 20, 5.55 p.m.) Sydney, February 20. When the Assembly met to-day, Mr. Wood, member for Bega, whom the Speaker had suspended several weeks ago, presented himself, ami stated that he desired to apologise, since a majority of the House had adjudged liim guilty of contempt. At the same time lie denied the charges imputed to him.

The Speaker insisted upon an unqualified apology, which Mr. Wood eventually gave.

A RACING INQUIRY. (Rec. February 21, 0.30 a.m.) Sydney, February 20. After the Speaker declared that the censure debito had lapsed, the House, proceeded to business and appointed a Solect Committee to inquiro into the operations of tho Australian Jockey Club in its relatiDns to horse-racing in New South Wales.
