HOSPITAL BOAIID MELTING. (Bj Telcirranh.-SDOeial Correspondent.! Palmerston North. February S. J he monthly meeting of the Palmerston Hospital Board was held to-day, Mr. J. <-<: Wilson presiding. The Manawatu, lywitcu, and Urmia t.ouuty Councils, and Jhe Houpilci Town Board forwarded the levies for (he Old People's Home. the Inspector-General wrote asking the hoard's decision on the <|Uostioti of letting a contract for the supplv of leading lines ot drugs and dressings" to the hospitals of I lie Dominion. The secretary pointed out that the hospital was already getting lis drugs, etc., at a very reasonable rate, and it was doubtful if much would be gained by the methods suggested. It was resolved to accept a tender for this year's supply as usual, and to notify the Jn-spector-Genernl that the board would be prepared to give the matter full consideration. Tho Inspector-General requested a rough estimate of the probable cost of the buildings for the erection of which the Department had tentatively agreed with (he board. It was decided to forward tho information required. Dr. b'rcngloy forwarded the Minister's consent to the. erection of a consumptive annexe. Tho Mayor stated thero seemed no reason why the project should not be carried out. There had been too much delay. He would move that the matter bo referred to tho executive with power lo act. The motion was carried. Probationer Wiseman was appointed to the permanent staff. A Liter was received from Mr. 11. M'Crea, asking if there was any possibility of getting a home built for the aged and infirm at Halcombe, providing ho gave an acre or two of ground for tho purpose. It was decided to inform Mr. M'Crea that tho board is already making provision for a home at Palmerston North and cannot therefore entertain tho suggestion. Nurses Day and 7/iegler tendered their resignations. The chairman stated that it was hardly fair to the Ixiard that nurses, after having been trained in the hospital, .should leave practically as soon us they passed their examinations. The resignations were accepted. The secretary slated that it was estimated by the Inspector-General that within the next five years between .0370,01)0 and JMOO.OOO would be expended on hospital buildings in tho Dominion. As a result of tho mooting of representatives of various co-operative dairy companies here last Saturday to consider the proposals of the Casein Manufacturing Company, ten directors of local dairy companies yesterday paid a visit to Wangaehu, near Wangamii, where a plant for the manufacture of co-sein from skimmilk is in operation. The party were greatly struck with the fine appearance of the pigs and calves fed on the whey after the casein had been extracted, and thoso who were dubious previously of its feeding value were converted. It is now probable that a plant will be established' in the Palmerston district. Mrs. M. Wischnewsky passed away this morning at the residence of her son, Mr. L. Wischnewsky. The deceased lady, who was Gfi years of age, had been a resident of Palmerston for 1)7- years. She had been ailing for some time, and her end was not unexpected. She leaves four grownup children—Messrs. L. and J. Wischnewsky, of Pnlmerston North, Mrs. P.odomski. of Wellington, and Mrs. Sklcncrs, of Hamilton.
