LATE DUKE OF FIFE.
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.. By Teletrash— Press Association—OearrljrM Cairo, January 30. It is officially announced that the Duke of Fife became ill on tho 19th instant, and that pleurisy appeared on the 21st. His temperature was normal until Thursday last, but tho left lung was congested and heart trouble appeared. On Friday there was increasing heart failure, which continued to increase, until his death. Tho Duke's faculties wero unimpaired until just before he passed away. London, January 30. Their Majesties the King and Queen curtailed their Gibraltar programme owing to tho death of the Duke of Fife. TITLE GOES TO AN AUSTRALIAN. (Rec. February 1, 0.15 a.m.) London, January 31, The "Daily News" says that, though Princess Alexandra becomes Duchess of Fife, the Irish earldom which was created in 1759 apparently descends to an Australian, Mr. Jekyl Charmers Duff, of Warrnninboo], some years ago in the police service, whose sons are in South Africa and India. The "Daily Mai!" states that a son of the first Earl named George died in 1818. Ho had a son, the Rev. George Duff, whose son is Colonel Daniel Duff, employed by the East India Company. The latter was the father of Jekyl. No property accompanies the earldom.
THE BODY EMBALMED. (Rec. January 31, 11.20 p.m.) Cairo, January 31. Lord Kitchener, British Agent in Kgypt, has gone to Assouan. The Duke of Fife's body ha 3 been embalmed. . The Princess Royal leaves on Friday aboard the Hyksos. Tho journoy to Cairo will occupy eight or ten days. KING'S ARRANGEMENTS CANCELLED. (Rec, January 31, 10.35.p.m.) Gibraltar, January 31. The majority of their Majesties' engagements have been cancelled owing to the death of the Duke of Fife. The King has intimated his wish that the Duke's death should not interfere with his Majesty's reception at Plymouth and the London thanksgiving service on Tuesday.
