PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho fortnightly meeting of the Petono Borouch Council was held last evening, there being present: Tho Mayor (Mr, .1. SV. Jl'Ewan), and Councillors J. Piper, S, T. Btirridge, J. 'Wnkehani, W. G. Loddcr, K. W. Short, C. P. Brocklebank, AY. Trueman, W. Cox, and .1. List.
An application from' the Wellington Rugby Union for the use of three grounds for the coining football season was referred to tho Reserve Committee. To the same committee was also referred an application from the St. David's Football Club lor the use of one groundThe .Mayor, nnd Councillors List and Trneman were appointed to represent the council on the Petono Technical School Board.
Mr. Vi. Hopkins, foreman of 'the •Fitimc Deyartihent at the gaswdrks, tendered his resignation, which was acccpted with kh Bret- ;
_ Councillor Trueman moved;—" That no increase ol wages bo entertained from any employee of tho council, excopt when the estimates are being framed for tho year,' nnd that then each applicant apply in writing through his executive officer," and that no other application be recognisedby the council, each executive officer to advise for or against'the increase."—Tho motion _ was carried, with the addition of a proviso that applications for increases would be considered at other times during the year, under special circumstances, ana subject to the recommendation of the executive officer concerned,
