At a banquet given in his honour at Quebec m December, Mr. Metier, tho 1 ostmasfcer-Genernl, said; "There was hardly any need for a direct appeal to the people to find out whether we Conservatives should abandon o'rMiot abandon the Laurier poncy in the niatter of the Canadian Navy. Jt did not take us long to come to the uniinimons conclusion that a naval policy so unacceptable ■ as that ot the late Government should be thrown aside.

On October (I Admiral Kingsiiiill con-curred.in-the views ot Commander Roper and thus the Government .decided it was high time to put an end !o such a. state of adairs.
