FIFTH REGIMENT.
. * BATTALION ORDERS. Battalion Orders by Major C. Harcourt Turner (commanding the Fifth Kogitnent, N.K.1.)-include the following ennounceiiieut.s:— The monthly meetings of officers will be resumed on Wednesday next (Drill Hall, Buckle Street), at 8 p.m. After the meeting instruction will be given in fitting "Mills equipment;" Officers commanding companies are requested to supply by Wednosday next details as to tjhe number of men sworn in to date; the number of men. whoso notices have been returned by Post Office; and the number of men not yet accounted for. A class for non-commissioned officers will assemble at the Drill Hall, Buckle Street, on Thursday next,, for the purpose of being instructed in fitting "Mills equipment." . Owing to the fact that many officers could not present themselves for examination for promotion in November last, and to give those who failed (it that examination a chance to sit again, n spceial examination for promotion'Will l bo held in March ou the third Tuosday. Futuro examinations for promotion will bo held on the third Tuesday in February and August, instead of Stay and November, commencing next August.
The following daily rates of pay for troops while in camp have been approved, as from .lannary 13, 1912Lieutenantcolonels, 155.; majors, 125.; captains, 10s.; lieutenants and second lieutenants, Bs',; sergeant-majors and staff sergeants,ss. (id.; sergeants, 55.; corporals, 4s. 6d.; other ranks, is.
Colour-Sergeant James Gardiner, D Company, is promoted to be regimental quartermaster-sergeant.
