STALLION REGISTRATION BILL.
. "NEGLECTED, BUT NECESSARY." Writing from Thoresby, Marton, under date January 26, Mr. M. T. Birch has tlie following to. say in regard to the Stallion Registration Bill, which was the subject of considerable discussion throughout New Zealand last year and the year before: "I feel quite sorry for Mr. Jlassey, because he is, directly he gets into olhcp, expected to put everything right; we know this cannot be (lone at once, however much he may wish to do it. There is one thing, however, which 1 trust the new Government will do, and that is to pass a Stallion Bill before the close of next session. The liill has been prepared and explained by our Chief Veterinary Inspector, and it has been accepted by the -Farmers' Union, by the A. and P. societies, and by tho Agricultural Conference. All have urged that it should be passed; it was drafted ready to present to the House two sessions ago, yet nothiug was' done.. Why,. I do not know, but, I presume, it was neglected as of 110 political importance. It is really of'very great importance not only to horse breeders, but to the general soundness of our stock and our good name as exporters, therefore indirectly to the whole community."
