A FARMERS' UNION PRESIDENT.

The president of the Taranaki Executive of the Farmers' Onion, Mr. J. W. Jones, who is resigning in order to settle in the Bay of Islands, made the following remarks at the last meeting of the union when replying to various expressions of regret by members «t his projected departure:— "He was very sorry to be leaving, but he was practically going on to a freehold farm, which would be better for himself and nis family. He considered that we had taken the cream out of tho conntry, and that those following us would have a difficult task. He had come to Taranaki--twenty-three years ago, when times were bad. Happily Taranaki was now prosperous, but notwithstanding this tho time would como when farmers would have to do less muscle work and more brain work, in order to make a success of things.
