AND WHY NOT RESIN?
Several prominent Australian cricketers do not seriously regard the objection raised by. Mr. Douglas, the English captain, to Hordern. aud Kelieway using resin whilst bowliug during the third Test Match at Adelaide.
Fur years past (says the Sydney "Herald") the Australians have used resin, which is kept in a powdered form in their dressing-room for the specific purpose of rubbing on their hands to prevent perspiration exuding too freely whilst fielding, batting and bowling. In fact, the majority of them carry it in their pockets, to' bo used as tho occasion demands.
In England bowlers complain of tho stickiness imparted to the ball by tho compound used by the wicket-keepers. The other side of the picture is presented when an Englishman is seen "polishing" the ball with a handkerchief>?A,r on his sleeve, so as to make it easier for a bowler to impart a swerve to his bowling. Our Melbourne correspondent wired that Kelieway refused to discuss the question, and that Hordern said: "Certainly, tho same as any other bowler, I use a little when the ball is new. I prefer to do. that rather than lick my fingers like the English captain does." Messrs. M. A. Noble and S. E.' Gregory state that they have been using resin for years. "If they don't use it," remarked the ex-Australian Eleven captain, "they are very foolish. The objection is a very trivial one."
