HAWKE'S BAY AUTUMN SHOW.
FRUIT REPLACES FAT STOCK. Commenting on a copy of tho llawke's Bay A. ami I'. Society's autumn show programme, the "Herald" says one notices at lirst glaucu the absence ol any classes of fat slock, excepting the pet lamb and handfed calf classes. It seems a pity (adds the paper) that there should be no opportunity for exhibiting the fine stock produced in the province; but, considering tho poor support that has given to this section at the autumn show, the committee have probably been wise in omitting the section altogether. With some .CIO of prize money thus set free, the committee have been able to make large additions to the rest of the programme, and fruit has received the largest part of their, attention. There are now fifteen classes for named varieties of apples and nine similar classes for pears, a.s well as collections and cases of both dessert and cooking varieties of each, seven classes for peacho, four for plums, six for grapes, and fifteen for other fruits. An important now class is that for.best collection of fruit grown on a half-acre section. The vegetables section Terrains much ,as befoTe, only with tho important alteration that the prize money is to be doubled wherever thero aro six or more entries, and on last year's entries that would apply to twenty classes. Poultry, roots, and iierticulture all have the same provision as to doubling of prize money. The poultry section has new classcs for American white Leghorns, black Leghorns and black rose comb bantams, and the floral section provides for dahlias, roses, asters, zinnias, as •well as pot plants and bouquets of various designs.
