A BIG CONTRACT.
1 THE NG ATCUWA RTA-WAII'A. TZAII* WAY. After a delay of over twelve months, occasioned by interested counties having to procure legislative authority to act, tho contract for the-formation work ia connection with the Waipa Coal Company's Ngaruwaliia-Waipa private railway lino has at length been signed by t.lie successful tenderers, Messrs. Donald M'lieau and Co. 'Die contract price for the work is .£27,200, and it is to be completed by June, 1913. Tho line, wliiell travels over flat and undulating country, partly in bush and partly cleared, will )>e 51 miles in length, and all tlio formation" work, wliich includes one big viaduct, and a number of smaller bridges and cuhwts, must' be built up to Government standard. 'Die line, which will bo the property of tho newly-formed Waipa Coal Company, is being constructed in order thai tho products of the new coalfield may be placed in handy relar tiou to the markets north and south. As it is, Mr. M'Lcan's intention to, leave on ft trip to England shortly, tha railway formation work will be dona under the superintendence of Mr. Rhodes, Mo lias already made a start. The company's other contracts will ba in charge of Mr. Gardner. ; 'these include a big bridge in the Waiapu County (£hst Coast), to cost XCOOO; a bndgo over the Kaikoura River, near I\aikoura, to cost .£33i10; and the Taranaki. Street. .Tervois Quay Wharf extension, in «cllington, to cost .£6OOO.
