ME. MASON'S ATTITUDE. In rofercijtc to a statement that bad Ikoii made to the eiVect llwt the chairman of Iho Now South Wales Totnlisalor Commission personally interviewed Mr. R. J. Mason, and asked liiin to appear as a witness, but- that Mr. Mason excused himself nn tho ground that lie was 100 busy, it appears that Mr. Mason lias no recollection of this. To clear Iho matter up, lie saw the chairman at Trciitham on Saturday, and stated that ho felt sure that lie had received no such invitation. Further, ho expressed himself
as willing to give evidence in support of, any statements which he had made elsewhere. When tho matter was subsequently mentioned by a reporter to the chairman of the Commission, the latter stated that when the Commission sat in Christchurch Mr. Mason would not l>e there, but ho would be invited to give evidence when he visited Sydney in the autumn. The Commission were particularly desirous of. questioning him in regard to on« statement which ho was reported to havo made. In conclusion, the chairman repeated that everywhere an invitation had been extended through the newspapers to anyone desirous of giving cvidencc,
