PETITION AGAINST A POLL. Of the four Maori districts on the East Coast—Takitimu, Horoutu, and Arawa— only one earned prohibition'as the result of "the- poll taken on December 1!) last. According to the Gazette, published last evening, the figures for these districts were:— , For liquor. Against. Takitimu 65!) 23(i Horoutu M 55 1 Arawa tBl 1"!) Wairoa -w l-S A petition is to be lodged against the validity of the Horoutu poll (the district where prohibition was carried) oil the ground that tho poll was not taken in strict accordance with tho law. Messrs. Chapman, Skerrett, Wylie, and Tripp are acting for tho petitioners.
