SHIPS' OFFICERS' PAY.

'I'M UNION COMPANY' SERVICE. An effort will probably be made durill),' tho present week to settle the rates of pay and working conditions of officers on ships of the Union Company. It is understood, however, that the decision of the majority was against the acceptance of the oiler. So the matter has stood for throe months. Now it is proposed that the question at issue ; bo settled, and to that end tho company have suggested a conference to consider one of the salient features of the terms . offered, which, it is understood, is the main difficulty so far as the officers are , concerned. <
