CURE FOR CALF SCOURS.
According to the '.'Wisconsin County Magazine,'' calves at the University of Wisconsin farm are specially treated for calf scours. First, special care is taken to avoid si'ours'by keeping the calves in clean, bright, well-lighted and well-venti-lnled quarters. They are fed regularly until four weeks old on two to six pounds nf their mothers' milk three timt.s daily. Care is taken to have the temperature of the milk as noar that of freshly drawn milk as possible and always to tauvu tho calf pail scrupulously clean. In spito of all precaution, now and then there are cases of scours. For the past two years such cases have been treated as follows:'—As soo.-i as M'mptoms appear, two to foil , tablespoonfuls of castor oil aro mixed with one-half put of milk and given to the calf. This is followed in lour to .six hours by one teasiioonful of a mixture of one part salol and two parts sub-nitrate of bismuth. It win also bo given with one-half pint of new milk or the powder placed on the tongue and washed down bv « small amount of milk.
Tho sulol and sub-nitrate of bismuth can be secured, from any druggist mixed in tho proper proportions at the time of purchase and thus have the powder readily available for use at any time. As an additional precaution against contagious scours, it is advised that the navel of tho new-born calf He wetted with a one to 500 solution of bi-clilorido of mercury (corrosive sublimate). i
