AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. At Christmas time Wellington appears likely to bo the meeting place for the largest number of amateur athletes ever congregated in one centre on any previous occasion in the Dominion. the Australasian championship meeting, which is being held at Athletic Park on December 26. and 27, is allotted to New Zealand only onco in every ten or twelve years, and this is tho first time that the honour has fallen to Wellington. Representative teams for tho fifteen championship events are being sent by V ictoria. New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Many athletes whose reputations extend outsido the Australasian Dominions will bo competing. These include Davis, tho holder of the world's championship time for the 410 yards hurdles, while Russell and ICelly, who have tied for the Australasian high jump record, are equal to doing six feet. There will bo some eight handicap events 011 cach day, and, judging by the entries already received, the fields for these will be large, and tho competition keen. WHEELERS* CLUB. On New Year's Day the Wellington Wheelers' Club will hold a cycling and athletic sports carnival at Athletic Park. Particulars of the various events are announced elsewhere.
