PORTSMOUTH ESPIONAGE CASE

PRISONER COMMITTED FOE TRIAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyricht London, December 12. Captain Heinrich Grosse, the German officer charged with espionage at Portsmouth, has been committed for trial. Counsel for the Treasury stated that a cipher letter was found in prisoner's possession. It was from Rotterdam, and directed accused to ascertain particulars regarding tho construction and armament of British warships, and any preparations that might be made for arming .merchantmen during war time.

Two other letters from the same source, signed "Petersen," were also quoted by counsel.
