EDUCATIONIST LOST TO NEW ZEALAND. At the monthly meeting of tho Wellington Education Board yesterday, Mr J. G. AY. Aitken referred to the resignation of Mr. AV. Gray, as principal of the Training College, who has just boon appointed principal of the Presbyterian Girls' College in Melbourne. "I don't know why it is so," said Mr. Aitken, " but tho Australian people seem to have tho idea that men trained iu this country to this kind of work are worth looking after. It seems to me that wo must lx> paying smaller money than is being paid on tho other side, otherwise we should not bo finding our best men going to the other side-." "We are training good men and losing them," communU'd Mr. llobort Leo, chairman of the board. Mr. Gray's new appointment, by the ivay, carries a salary about double that which he drew in Wellington, and is one of the best offering to educationists in tho Southern Hem) sphere. A discussion followed as to the method to bo followed in appointing a successor to Mr. Gray. In the pst the holder of tho position has lx?on lecturer on education at A'ictoria College, and as such has been paid a salary by the college. Tho making of the appointment, therefore., concerned tho College Council to some extent, and tho board was anxious that the appointment finally mode should be acceptable to the College Council, as fit for a lecturer's position. The wliolo matter was referred to a sub-committee of tho board, to confer with tho Victoria College Council, and the Committee of Advice of the Training College.
