BANK RATES OF DISCOUNT. Tho Hank of England rato wa3, on December 1, 1910, lowered from 5 to 4J per Cent.; on January 27 it was lowered to 4 por cent., on February 16 to 31 per cent,, and, on March 9 to 3 per cent. On Scptcmber 21 H was advanced to 4 per cent,
The Dank of France rate was reduce! from 35 to 3 per rent, on January 23, 1908. and continued at the latter figure until September 21, 1911. when it was raised to 3i per cent. Tho Imperial Dank of Germany reduced its rate from 5 to 4J per cent, on February 6, and on Fobruary 19 the rate was further reduced to 4 per cent. On September 19 the rate was raised So 5 per cent. There is no chanjro to note in the local CTain market, there beins practically no wheat or oats offering by crowers, and no business of any extent doinc between merchants. Prices are without quotable ohango. wheat still randui from 3s. 6d. to 3s. 7rt. for hunters and tuscan at country stations. Chaff remains firm at 90s. at country stations. The only move is in potatoes, which have advanced to 40s.- at country stations. Tacro are tome orders in from the North island, and as merchants havo not been holdvng any shocks, they have had to advance the price in ord,?r to obtain supplies as growers are indifferent about FcUinE at a lower fiEure. It is stated that the layinc up of tho small coastal steamers is 'ateo havinc some effect upon Uio potato market, as it is preventing the shipment of potatoes to the smaller coastal ports in the North Island. Potatoes at this lato date in tho season aro not keepin"- well and refiniro to bo shipped direct from tho nit, and hence there arc no stocks in morohanls hands.
