' TRANS-CONTINENTAL GAUGE PROBLEM. By Telegraph—Press Associatton-Oopyrignt Melbourne, October 12. The Federal House of Representatives has adopted a gauge of 4ft. B}in. for tho Trans-Continental Railway. Many members supported a sft. 3in. gauge. The Molbourno "Age" has been carrying on a ugorous agitation to have tho Victorian gauge of sft. Sin. adopted for the transcontinental railway, Tlio Premier of South Australia, where- the main through line is sft. 3in., and tho branches 3ft. Cm., has also been in Melbourne, urging tho advantages of the broad gauge. Tho West Australian line* aro 3ft. Gin. ■ ,
