ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
BABY'S BODY FOUND. IN FIELD OFF BROUGHAM STREET. Yesterday afternoon Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., commenced an inquiry touching tho death of an unknown baby whoso body was found in a paddock in Brougham Street on Tuesday. George Guy, a boy of nine years, who lives with his parents at 77 Brougham Street, gave evidence. He stated that on Tuesday he and a boy named Leslie Malcolm were playing in Brougham Street. They had a lawn tennis ball which went over a fence and they followed to look for it. Near tho fence ho saw a brownpaper parcel hidden under some grass. The parcel was tied up with string. Ho opened the parcel, and inside tho brown paper found a tea-towel wrapped round a dead body. On making this discovery he went to the Mount Cook police station and told Sergeant Rutledge. Sergeant Rutledge stated that he did not propose to call any further evidence just then. He asked for an adjournment till October 19, and that was granted. THE BODY IN THE HARBOUR. The young man, James Glasb.cn, whoso body has been found in Wellington Harbour, had been working for some years for Mr. Lawrence Donald, farmer, of MaSterton. Some months ago ho went on a trip to the Old Country, and returned to New Zealand on September 20. He was a single man of very abstemious habits, and ho had several hundred pounds to his credit here. During shunting operations he had his . foot caught under tho guard's. .van,.and..iv"«is dragged along over sixty yards. TRAIN COLLIDES WITH 'TRAP. Hawcra, October 5. An accident occurred on tho Main South Road railway crossing early this evening, when a special goods train ran into a trap, this resulting in, a middleaged man being injured. He was removed to tho hospital in an unconscious condition, and the case is regarded as very serious. Letters found in his pocket give tho name as "S. Turkington, blacksmith, Mangatoki."
