If tlio offer is accepted, the company will engage further new men. SHIPOWNERS AND SEAMEN. London, October 1. Several leading firms of shipowners are withdrawing from the Cardiff Association, owing to tlio association's surrender to the seamen's demand in July last. MOUNT LYELL STRIKE. Hobart, October 2. The news that tlio engine-drivers are joining the striko has caused satisfaction oa the port of the miners. Business places in the Lyell district are dosing. All who can are migrating. (K«c. October 3, 1.5 a.m.) Melbourne, October 2. The Engine-drivers' and Firemen's Association, has notified the Mount Lyell Company that unless the terms of tlio arbitration award are conceded, and the dismissed man reinstated, they will ccaso work to-morrow. (Rcc October 3, 1.5 a.m.) Melbourne, October 2. The engineers employed at tlio State coal mine have demanded au increase of Is. Bd. per shift, failing compliance they threaten dractic action. PERTH STRIKE ENDS. Perth, October 2. The brickmakers' striko has been settled. TEXTILE WORKERS' FEDERATE. (Rec. October 2, 9.30 p.m.) London, October 2. A conference of Lancashire textile workers, held at Huddersfield, decided to federate in view of common action in strikes. The conference protested against tho formation of a volunteer police forco as proposed by tho Homo Office.
