Tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) arrived from Palmerston North last night, and will remain in Wellington now until the Court of Appeal sits. Advicos to hand by tho last mail intimate that Mr. P. J. 11. Uannon, lato Director of Agricultural Organisation to the Government of tho Capo of Good Hope, and lormerly chief organiser of the Irish Agricultural Organisation S.sciety, has been appointed secretary of tho Navy League. .Mr. Uannon, who has bem an active worker on behalf of national defence since his return to England iiom South Africa, was Unionist candidate for Bristol East in the December election, lie has been a memter of tho Executive Committee of the Navy League- for the past year, and is vice-chairman of the Bristol branch.
Cliapges are annouacod in regard to the Union Steam Ship Company's branch managers throughout Australasia. E. S. A. Pearson, traffic manager at Wellington, is to bo manager at New 1 lymouth, vice Mr. Geo. Holdsworth. Mr. Horton, of tho Wellington office, is lie traffic manager here. Mr. ,F. C. l.ramond, manager at Invercargill, is to be manager at Launccston, and Mr. W. Hl'rioe, manager at Nelson, goes to Invercargill. Mr. R. W. Monson, manager at Oamaru, lias bean appointed to Nelson, and Mr. If. Digby-Smith, sub-manager at the Bluff, is to take his place., Mi. J. H. Wilson, sub-agout at llokitika, is to take charge at the Bluff, a,nd Mr. W. \. Craskcr, sub-manager at Lyttelton, lias been appointed manager at Strahan, Tasmania. Out Feilding correspondent states that out of tewenty-tivo applicants tnc Borough Council has appointed Mr. Frank Hompleman, of the Wellington City Corporation, to the position of borough foreman. Mr. Hempleman has had over 6ovcn years' experienco in tho Wellington Corporation. He is a surveyor, draftsman, and general engineer, with a good working knowledge of culvert work and scptic tanks. Mr. Heraploman will take up .his duties hero early in October. Dr. W. Young has been enrolled an honorary associate of tho Ordor of St. John of Jerusalem for services on behalf | of its ambulanco department, extending over a period of fifteen years. Dr. Young is the fourth member of tho medical profession in New Zealand to rcoeivo this distinction; Miss CoopeT, florist, Moaners Sfcrwt, and Miss M. Moore, photographic artist, left on a holiday visit to Sydney by tho Moana yesterday. Mr. Langsworth, general manager for Chubb's, Limited,, in Australasia, left for Sydney yesterday after a tour of New Zealand. Rifleman A. C. Bellamore, who is representing tho Suburbs I'iJlo Club at tho Randwick Riflo Association meeting, left for Sydney by tho Moana yesterday. Mr. R. Ellison, the London manager of the National Dairy Association, who has been in tho Dominion for tho last two months on business, left yesterday for England by the sjs. Euopenu. Mr. James Thomson, of the general manager's office of tho Railway Department, is leaving the service to tako up farming pursuits in the Oamarn district. Last evening Mr. Ronayne (general manager), on behalf of tho staff, presented Mr. Thomson with a memento, and wished him a successful future! Mr. Leonard Borwick, the gifted pianist who is to give his third and final recital at tho Town Hall this evening, arrived from tho south lost evening. Mr. Borwick will bo the guest of his Excellency the Governor during his stay in Wellington-
