GREYTOWN.
The final stop in introducing Grcytown to coal gas was taken yesterday, wh?n the Mayoress officially' "turned on the gas." This was done after a short speech by tho Mayor. A number of spectators lvere present at the ceremony, and afterwards, at the Town Hall. A great many were present when tho Mayor and other speakers gave addresses on tho subject matter in hand. Mrs. Whineop gt.re illustrations in cooking with gas. Afternoon tea was .dispensed, and a pleasant time generally was spent. There are at.present T3 consumers, and tho Mayor hopes thai this number willsoon be increased to 100. The South Wairarapa Workingmen's Club held their annual reunion on Thursday evening. The president, Mr. \V. Thompson being in the chair. The usual toasts were given and replied to, niui, during tile evening, tho president presented the prizes won at the recent tournament. Songs and recitations figured on the programme, and a very pleasant time v;as spent.
