TELEGRAM FROM TITE PRIME MINISTER. (By Tclccraqli.—Press Association.) Christchurch, September 7. Representatives of tho unemployed waited on tho Mayor at noon to-day, as arranged yesterday, and his Worship read to them the following telegram received by him last night from the Prime Minister :— "Sorry to hear that there are so many men out of employment in Christchurch at present. Am making inquiries with a view to seeing if work can be found for them, and hope to wire you early to-morrow." The position was talked over, and tho Mayor asked the representatives of the unemployed to see him again to-morrow at noon, when ho will probably have a further telegram from the Prime Minister. It is probable that work will be found for a few men at the public gardens.

«- "SAME WAGES AS WHITES." (By Telegraph — Press• Association.) Auckland, September 7. , Among the passengers by the Atua from the Islands was' Hmil Krau.se, who was Acting-Chief Justice of Gorman Samoa during the Governor's absence. Ho states there lias been trouble at Apia in consequence of the shortage of labour, for work on the plantations. The Chinese, through their Consul, demanded the samo wages as are paid tho whites. This was resented by tho latter, and caused ill-feel-ing, but ho thought the arrival of a transport with a fresh supply of Chinoso labour shortly would relieve the situation. It was expected a satisfactory settlement would bo arrived' at. ■'
