THE NEW HEBRIDES.

SEKIOUS IRREGULARITIES ALLEGED. By Teleeraoh—Press .Association— Oopyrleht Melbourne, August i. The Rev. Mr. Paton, secretary of the Presbyterian, Foreign Missions, states that letters from Presbyterian missionaries more than confirm Bishop Wilsons statements regarding the oppression of New' Hebrides natives. ■The New Hebrides Synod, in annual session, drew up a minute stating that casos of irregularities were so numerous as to lead to \ronder if there was any hope of redress against wrongdoers who happen to be under French jurisdiction.

A minute was adopted, making charges of illegal supplying of liquor, kidnapping, and flogging of natives, and offences against morality, and urging' that in tlio interests of justice and for the advancement of civilisation of the natives, the Home authorities should make the strongest possible representations to the French Government that the provisions of the Convention should be enforced without fear or favour upon all > under French jurisdiction. The Synod absolutely repudiated the absurd and groundless charges made in the French Chamber by the late Gover-nor-General of (Madagascar against Presbyterian missionaries in the New Hebrides.
