EGYPT'S NEED
LORD KITCHENER'S POST. 13j TelecraDb—Press Association—ICopyright1Copyright London, July 17. Referring to Lord Kitchener's appointment as British Agent, in Egypt. Ihe "Daily Chronicle" states that it is not enamoured of tho idea of appointing a soldier of great position to the head of a civil administration, unless there aro special circumstances in Egypt thoroughly justifying the choice. The "Chronicle," however, eulogises the Field-Marshal's chivalrous attitude towards Major Marchand's mission to l'ashoda, also his conduct of tho peace negotiations at Vereoniging at tho close of the Boer War. Such recollections should remove tho Liberal misgiving. Tho paper adds: "A man of powerful personality is needed in Egypt at this juncture. Moreover, the Egyptians will (ind Lord Kitchener as just as he is fearless." DISCUSSION WANTED. London, July 17. Mr. J. Ramsay Macdonald, Leader of tho Labour party in the Houso of Commons, asked the Premier to set asido a day to discuss tho appointment of Lord Kitchoner. Mr. Asquith postponed giving a reply. APPROVAL IN CAIRO. Cairo, July 17. Lord Kitchener's appointment has evoked a striking unanimity of approval. ATTITUDE OF THE RADICALS. (Rec. July 13, 11.30 p.m.) London, July 18. The Foreign Affairs Committee of the I Radical section in tho House of Commons
has derided to urge the Government to maintain the late Sir Eldon Gorst's progressive policy in Egypt.
