THE COAL VEND CASE.
FIFTIETH DAT OF HEARING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyright (Rec. July 18, 9.25 p.m.) Sydney, July 18. The fiftieth day of the hearing of tho Coal Vend case was reached to-day, when Mr. Campbell began the third day of his address on behalf of Messrs. Brown and Company. Mr. Campbell said he considered that the practice of sluiring trade amongst the mine-owners was not objcctionablo to the Act, as it did not restrict trade. His Honour Mr. Justice Isaacs said that some of tho mines might be able to produco cheaper than others, and therefore could supply cheaper. Mr. Campbell admitted that tho Maitlaiid mines produced cheaper than the Newcastle ones, and also that tho Maitland mines could supply tho whole demand. That, however, would mean closing the Nowcastlo mines.
Continuing his address, he said the agreement between the mine-owners and shipping companies was justifiable, as it ensured the shipping trado a continuity of supplies and prevented an unjust cutting of prices.
