PROPOSED CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOLS. (By TeleEraph-Prc6s Association.! Christchurch, July S. Mr. C. H. Opie (chairman of the North Canterbury Board o£ Education) was asked by a reporter whether that board contemplated adopting the suggestion of the Otago Board that corr-espoiuleuce schools should be established for the purpose of enabling back-blocks teachers to qualify for certificates. Mr. Opic replied that overtures had been made to the North Canterbury Board by the Otasii Education Board wilh a view to Rottinj; their support, and bringing the matter before the Edueulion Department. While cordially supporting the movement, tho North Canterbury Board found thai they were not in tho fame position as Olago in this matter. In Otago some of the leachcis were in inaccessible localities, from which they could not easily get into town. In Canterbury, however, nearly all teachers could visit tho centre on Saturdays, very few indeed lwing so situated that they could not get into town. The North Canterbury Board had already intimated to teachers that they were wiiling to help them to obtain certificates by means of classes at present available, and for this reason tho North Canterbury Board did not favour the starting of correspondence classes in their district,
