IMPORTANT NAUTICAL WORK.

Overhauling operations having boon completed the Antarctic expedition ehip Terra Nova will leave. Lyttclton at eight o'clock on Monday morning, and proceed up the coast to Cape Jlaria Van Diemcn where it is proposed to lake soundings as well as at the Throe Kings. Should the weather he favourable it is expected that somo very important nautical work will be. carried out, although the amount (,£1200) allowed by the New Zealand Government does not allow a very comprehensive scheme, to be undertaken. Should time permit the Terra Nova will coino south and proceed to (ho westward of I'ovoaux Straits, and also cruise round Selanders' Island. Her mission should prove of value to the maritime community who trade on these shores. Lieutenant H. L. L. Peniicll, U.K., will bo in charge of the undertaking, and Lieutenants. 11. P. Kemvick and Bruce, H.N.R., with the present complement' of men, will assist. She is expected to bo away about three months, and on her return the Terra Nova will be refitted for her journey to the Antarctic, i
