PERSONAL ITEMS.

_ His Excellency the Governor is to be installed as Chief Savage at next Saturday's l;ori;io of the Wellington Savage Club. The visiting list will bo entirely suspended for this particular evening. The Acfing-Prjnic -Minister (Sir James Carroll) and tho Hon A, T. Ngata are still in the south. The Hon. J. 4. Millar, the non. R. M'Kcnzie, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, tho Hon. D. Buddo, and the Hon. G. i'owlds are in Wellington.

The respect in which the late Mr. S. G. Millington, Wellington gaoler, was held was evidenced by the large attendance at his funeral which took place on Saturday afternoon. The cortege included members of the Masonic fraternity (Lodge- St. Andrew), Mr. J. C. Scanlon and a squad of warders, and many friends including representatives of the 'Wellington Bowling Club, of which the deceased was a member. At the conclusion of the Church of England service at the graveside, conducted by Archdeacon Harper a Masonic service was conducted by the officers ot Ledge fit. Andrew.

Mr. G. E. Leighton, for eleven years manager for Messrs. Collins Bros, and Lo., Ltd., has been presented with a memento of esteem by his colleagues and members of the staff, ou severing his connection with the firm to go into busiuess on his own account in Auckland

Dr. T. J. Galhgan, of Karaniea, Westport, has been appointed medical practitioner to the Waihi friendly societies, and jeayes to-day by the Main Trunk line

Tho death occurred at Dannovirke yesterday of Mr. A. Robertson, a well-known surveyor after a brief illness, from pneumonia. Deceased was aged 53. Ho carried out many important surveys in both islands.—Press Association.
