The Mahcno, with English (via Suez) and Australian mails, arrived in Auck» land from Sydney between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. yesterday. The Wellington portion of the mails will arrive here by tho Main Trunk express this afternoon.

Ihe postal authorities advise that H.M.b. Aorangi, which left San Francisco on June 28, is bringing English and American mails. She is duo to arrive at Wellington on July 20.

The Sheffield Choir left for Lyttclton on Saturday night by the Mararoa. A large number of the local choir were on the wharf to bid them farewell, and, as tho boat (which was delayed fifteen minutes) moved away, they sang "Auld Syne" and cheered, the departing singers responding. The majority of the latter, however, had already found their bunks, being very tired after the rapid travelling of the past few "days.

As tho motor launch Minor was entering the Boat Harbour on Saturday, two men aboard, Messrs. H. Cameron and S. W. Moult, were overcome by unusual fumes from tho engine. Mr. Cameron was rendered unconscious for a time, and Dr. Mackin had to be called in to ' render medical aid. When the misadventure occurred,, the engines were being tested after an overhaul.

An old-ago pensioner named Daniel Hickey, 77 years of age, resident with his family at « Austin Street, died suddenly on Saturday at 7 p.m. An inquest is to be hold at two o'clock this afternoon.
