[By Glencoe.] Weights tor Trentham are due on Monday. Winners at Napier and Gishorno will not be penalised for Trentham. It was intended to race Dorando and Wedge at Trentham, but trainer Moraghan missed the nominations. Sir Lethe and Sumay were railed homo from Hastings yesterday, and will not bo seen out at Napier. Lovell, who went lame as a result of getting cast in his box at Hastings, was still in a bad way yesterday, and'so it was deemed advisable to cancel his Napier engagement, nnd-lio was returned home. Mr..Wilson's fine.jumper will not be seen out again for some time. '■'■ The Feilding trainer, Jno. Cameron, re-' turned to Feilding at the conclusion'of tho Hawkc's Bay meeting. ' On Monday ho will take Maidi to Napier, ■where tho roa.n ranro lias an engagement in tho Hack Steeples. , A. Whittaker and H. Gray are now level in the contest for supremacy in winning mounts on tho flat. Gray will not go to the' Gisborne meeting to ride, but Whittaker will bo there, as he has been engaged for Stourton and Go"cmar. -...,■ Winiata's poor showing in the Juno' Steeples was most disconcerting to his' numerous backers, and also to his owner and trainer. The latter rode the horse himself at exercise on Thursday morning to ascertain if lie was right after his •fall, but, of course, ho did not give him a jump. The favourite galloped well on tho flat in the race, but'ho did not jump any of the, fences property, and got up very high. This had a good deal'.to do with Ms "defeat;".'' If. Gray only rode one winner at tho Hawke's Bay meeting, and he was not up on Bliss when Mr. Hunter's mare won the Final Handicap. The hurdle.horse-; man, R. Gray, rode, tjie mare in.hoth hoi; racesiiat-Hnstings.lv..vi i. '~,'.''■;:'" The Grand Prix de Paris will bo decided to-morrow. On' Wednesday and Thursday next the Napier Park Racing Club's winter meeting takes place.' . Lull was lacking in condition at Hastings, and it was a great surprise to find him getting to the end of two mi'.es and a half over fences. Ho pulled up quite sound, and may bo expected to improve. After his good showing in the hack race at Hastings, Projectile does not Etom to be badly trealed in tho open event at Napier with only 111b.' above the minimum.' >■-•■■ San Pluic changed hands at Hastings on Thursday, and is now owned by a patron of G- Collclo's stables. Though early in tho season it appeared as if wo were to bo hard pressed for junipers this season, tho position is every day improving. At present, Te Arai; Antarctic, and Corazon are all' in perfect order, and if this trio go to tho post for the Grand National the race will be most interesting, as each of them has a large army of supporters. Regarding the hurdlers, tho position was much tho same as in the first instance, it seemed as if (outside Paisano and Wimmera) there would ho no hurdle horses. To-day, however, it is easy to find a dozen that a "National" would not be beyond; Thero are Napper, Espartaro. The Rover, Cullinan, Waiputere, St. Aidan, Captain Bell, St. Bill, North East, Bollin, and Merrie Zealand. Amongst these aro revoral who would he able to win a flat handicap of consequence. Tho ex-New Zealand jockoy, J. Stewavt, will probably have the mount on The Reckoning iu the V.R.C. Grand National ' Hurdles.
Prior to the start of the' June Stcoples at Hastings, tlio owner of Winiata was offered ,£IOO for the Loolantis gelding, but tlio offer was not entertained. Sardonyx, has turned very "sour," and would not jump at Hastings. In addition to this, ho refuses to leavo the mark, and, in several ways, has showed that he is stale on racing. In his only race at Hustings, the HaveJock Steeples, Don Carlos seemed to bo very sore, and did not jump, with his usual dash. Ho cut duo of his stifles rather badly by getting into a fence. , It is understood that tlio Auckland horseman, A Whittakor, will go to Australia in the spring to rido Messrs. Stead Bros.' horses. Kohupatiki, of whom great things were expected when lio raced over steeplcchaso courses, was a complete failure at Hastings. The full-brother to Ataahua gets closer to his fences than any horso that tho writer knows, but he generally scrambles over safely, but loses ground by getting up too high. Antoinette, who lias been spelled since winning, tho Great Northern Oaks at Easter 'time, is again in work at Ellorslie. Manupai, who showed good form at Napier in the autumn, seems to have lost all form, and finished last in tho hackrace at Hastings on Wednesday. The form of Windage in tho Hawko's Bay Hurdles, in which ho Bnished third, makes it appear as if Leolanter was very lucky to win tho'Turainoo Hurdles. On nil sides it was' admitted that To Whetu rail a much better race on tho second day than on the first, but lie had no ehanco with Windage. Leolanter only beat hi in by a length on tho first day, and Windage fell when out in front. Trainer M. T. M'Grath left for Sydney yesterday, taking with him Tumut, Gunboat and Zealand. Tho present intention of the Masterton trainer is to remain in Australia at least a year.. A notice in this week's Gazette, dated Juno lfl, revokes all licenses issued under tho Race Meetings Act, 1909. This, is done in order that the number of days on which racing is to bo allowed in re-' spoct of tho various clubs may bo readjusted under thoguidance of tho Pacing Commission's recommendations. FIXTURES. Juno 28 and 29-Napier Park R.C. Winter July G and 7—Gisborno B.C. Winter July 15, 19, and 22-Wellington R.C. Wintor. August 8,,.10, .and 12—Canterbury J.C.'s Grand - Rational. i Now completed, tho official history of the Sputh African War has cost in nil n net sum of £31,705,
