At a meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association to-night, it wag reported, in reference to' the holding of the Davis Cup competition at Christchurch, that the Lancaster Part Board of Control would offer the Australasian Association J. 500 for the contest, the board to provide a first-class ground, thoroughly suitable for such a contest, and to pay all cost of stands, advertising, preparation of ground, etc., pay the Australasian Association a clear sum of .£SOO, and take the whole of tho takings from all sources. In case this offer should not meet with the approval of the Australasian Association, the Canterbury Association obtained from the Board of Coutrol of Lancaster Park the-following alternative offer:—To provide and prepare the ground for play as in the offer already set out, that the cost of stand accommodation for, say, '1000 people, expenses of advertising mid gatekeepers' wages be a first charge ipn tho gate takings, the Board of Control to take 20 per cent, of the net takings, leaving 80 per cent, for the association. The Telephone Exchange met and defeated Potono Workingmcn's Club in the Junior Shield morris-tube- matches by 40 points. The shooting of tho Exchange wns very good, tbo team averaging 32.1 per man, which is an excellent record for juniors. Tho team is fortunate in having good coaches, and tho men themselves aro taking a keen interest in tho matches. Under the guidance of Kiflomnn Gower, of the Suburbs Rifle Club, who is secretary and was promoter of tho club; the shooting is improving rapidly. B. Pudncy is to bo congratulated for being tho first member of tho club to get a possible (35).
