. COMMON-RAIL EQUIPMENT. Auckland, Juno 9. This morning a ballast train, crashed into eight stationary trucks at Mount Albert Station, owing, it is understood, to tho-brakes failing to act on the slippery rails. Two of tho trucks were rcduccd to matchwood; tho others were moro or less smashed up. The engine jumped the rails. The forepart of it sustained some damage. The men on tho engine escaped unhurt. ALLEGED FRAUD. Duncdin, June 9. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Frank Fhilpots Bruford was charged that 011 March 13, at Hunterville, 110 did obtain fraudulently from William Dwyer the sum of .£l2, by falsely representing, (hat 110 had X2OOO in tho Bank of New flealand, Duncdin. Chief Dotectivo Herbert explained that a reply had been received from Wanganui, asking that Bruford be remanded to Hunterville to appear there on Juno 14. He was remanded accordingly. PALMERSTON-THE CORONATION. Palmerston, Juno 9. The Coronation Day celebrations here will comprise a parade of Territorials, cadets, scouts, etc., in ITIO Square, with tho local- bands. They, will be addressed from the rotunda by the. Mayor, the member for tho ditrici (Mr. E. Newman, M.P.), and clergymen. There will also bo singing by the school children, in the forenoon. 'The Overseas Club _ and the Navy League will give a patriotic concert in tho Municipal Opera Hottso in the evening. For this event 250 school children are being trained as a choir. LICENSING AFFAIRS. Woodvillo, Juno 9. The annual meeting of tho Pahiatua Licensing Committee was held here today. All reports were favourable, and all licenses were renewed. Tho Bench expressed itself as highly satisfied with the manner in which tho hotels in tho district had been conducted. New Plymouth, Juno 9. • • The annual meeting of the Tarauaki Licensing Committeo was held to-day. All applications wero granted, the jiolico reports being favourable, ana no objections raised. THE WHOLESALE CLUB. Christchurcli, Juno 9. A petition has been filed in bankruptcy praying the liquidation of the Wholesale Club, Limited, and also for a public investigation into the circumstances of tho flotation of that concern. OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD. Duncdin, Juno 9. A special meeting of tho Otago Harbour Board was held this evening to consider tho question of finances. After discussion it was. resolved to refer tho matter to a committeo of tho wholo beard for a report.
